I got it on April 9th, 2006. It is the Japanese Character for "adopt" or "foster" I am adopted, have known that since birth. My dog's name is Foster, named partly after Jodie Foster and partly because, like my folks, I took him in.

I moved to Japan in 2001 and studied Japanese for 1.5 years, so I have a basic knowledge of the language. I despise people who get Asian characters but have never studied the language. I choose red for China, where I am living now. In Chinese, the character is close to what one would use for ADOPT as well, but they use one more character.

- Tanya

Tattoo Story - Phoenix

When my x-boyfriend mumbled something about not been surprised from me anymore, i just had to go and do something about it, say.... like another tattoo (the 4th one).

The phoenix stands as a reminder, that no matter how hard i fall into depression, or what sort of crisis come my way - i can be reborn from the ashes, and come back stronger and more beautiful than ever.

-shira

Tattoo Story - Inline Skater

The first tattoo was a present 4 myself on my 19th birthday, the second one just now.

I have a hobby since I was 17 years old, its aggressive inline. I've got my favourite skate producing company- Salomon, and i was riding with them some years. so I designed my salomon skate as a tribal tattoo, cuz I knew, even if i dont skate some day, its been a big part of my life, and is worth to be inked on my body, cuz I love this art.

My favourites are especially tribal tattoos, so next one is just a piece of art with no meaning or story under it, except that the idea of it came out pretty silly. I had 2 scars on my eyebrow from piercings done. I loved them, but the 1st one I 'knocked out' by falling down on it while skating, the second just came out :( and so- if I can't pierce this eyebrow anymore, I thought I could tattoo the scars over (cuz many people do that on their scars). It was a joke at first, but as I loved this art even more, I just felt I needed a tattoo on my face :] I'm now a month happy with it and yeah- the scar on the eyebrow was most painful when tattooed :/

-Anna
Designed by: Anna
Inked by: Vadim - Vadim Tattoo (Latvia)

Tattoo Story - Poet Speak

I just turned 38 this April and wanted a present that was something that would be more than an average birthday gift. I felt I needed something that made my mark, and that mark had to be ink. I have been wanting a tattoo for a long time but didn't want anything that someone else had. I needed something that was me. The reason I wanted a tat in the first place was because I love to write and felt the ink in my tattoo would be a representation of that.

I write poetry and feel that my words are forever a statement of who I am. My life, thoughts, feelings get thrown into the world and won't be removed. So my tattoo if you look at it closely is two quills. The words "Poet Speak" is the title of one of my poems that I feel explains why I write. My favorite poet made the design for me which makes it even better. I have my permanent "River of Ink" added to my body.

-Nae

Tattoo Story - Apple Logo

It's Official! First time without any parental supervision and she, along with her much older friends, introduced me to crank. I did it every day for a week straight. And coming down from it made me sicker than a dog.

After, when I returned home, I searched for people at school who also used it. I got a job to support my habit at 15 years old. From that point on I was hooked. After using for about 4 years, at the age of 19 I met a boy, and fell head over heals in love. He also was a heavy user. Our love quickly became consumed with nothing but drug use. He later left me, and I felt like my world was over. I was left broken hearted and with the worst drug habit.

I was living in my car, had been kicked out of my parents home, and felt like I had nobody. My parents moved out of state and I got a job and attempted to clean up my act. I was clean for three weeks, which seemed like forever, and found a job. My parents agreed to pay my rent for a few months, as long as I held down a job. My first check, I blew $700 on Meth. And I began to spiral down hill once again. I never slept, I practically never ate. All I did was smoke Meth. I went from 180lbs to 106lbs in about 7 months. I looked terrible, my family was ashamed of me, and I lost all my "real" friends.

I was tired of life, I felt so miserable, unloved, and I saw absolutely no light at the end of the tunnel. I even tried to kill myself. I was renting a room out in the house. I went through the bathroom cabinets and grabbed 7 different medications. I drank a whole bottle of Nyquil and swallowed over 30 pills. I felt dizzy, light headed, and felt like that was it. As I started to drift into a sleep, I suddenly regretted taking the pills. But, I thought it was too late. I slept for about 2 and a half days. I called my mom later that week and convinced her to let me move up to Washington with her and my father. I got on a plane September 15, 2004. And I have been clean ever since.

It took me a good 4 months for the drugs to completely leave my system. But everything has changed for me. I am now 22 years old. I love my new life. I have wonderful friends. A steady job for well over a year and I am looking forward to a happy, healthy, successful future. I got this tattoo as a gift to myself. I am so proud of me. The anchor represents me settling down, and the banner represents exactly what it says. "Lived To Tell"

I now volunteer my services, as well as my story, to high schoolers. I would love to help kids who are headed down the same path that I chose. I hope to establish myself as a drug counselor. I hope I can make a difference in somebody's life. I know what it's like to have no help, and I want to be there to help them when nobody else will =)

-Lindsay

Tattoo Story - EVOLVE

I am a female to male transsexual who has gotten sex reassignment surgery and have been on hormone replacement therapy for the past 2 years. Not only have I physically evolved, I feel as though I have experienced an emotional and intellectual transformation as well. I continue to find ways to grow as a human being through lessons I learned during my transition that pervades every aspect of my life.

I have been very active in LGBT activism and Transgender awareness in the past few years and have come across some extremely ignorant people. "Evolve." is what I would like to say to them. The word is as much symbolic as it is a command for society as a whole to evolve into a more progressive and tolerant mindset.

-Eddie

Red eyed tree frog tattoo

I guess I'm a bit of a tree hugger.
